Here I'm reviewing a great choice for book clubs and for discussion: The Good Sister by Gillian McAllister. It's a book about two sisters who suddenly find themselves divided by a tragedy. Martha's baby died while in the care of her sister, Becky. What happened in those last moments? What is the truth? Is Becky innocent, as she claims? Martha is going through grief. She tries to keep an open mind, but as more and more secrets start coming out, Martha can't help but wonder.

Told alternately through the eyes of Becky, Martha, and (to a lesser extent) other characters such as health workers, the reader can't help but be drawn in. This is a fascinating story and is incredibly well-written.

It's ideal for book clubs because of the moral dilemmas and the unusual situations raised here, which are great for discussion.

This story is in the genre of domestic suspense, although it does not fit the more usual definition of domestic suspense (no-one is at risk of harm; the harm has already happened). However, it will appeal to readers of the more usual domestic suspense novels because of the unanswered questions and the urgency to find out what really happened to the baby.
